“A METHOD: HOW TO CHOOSE A HUSBAND” (1834)

VSELENSKYI: To Choose a Husband: A Nineteenth-Century Manual and Cultural Commentary (1834)

“To Choose a Husband…” is more than a restoration of a forgotten 19th-century artifact, as it represents an expansive study of human ambition, etiquette, and the social architecture of the past. At the heart of this volume lies a unique translation of the 1834 manual, originally published in Moscow, which offered young women a definitive strategy for securing a spouse by one’s own choice.

In this work, Vselenskyi acts as both translator and hermeneutic scholar. Across 200 pages of original narrative and analysis, he dissects the era, reconstructing lost meanings and cultural paradigms. Through the lens of a single vintage text, the reader is invited to explore the intricate tapestry of the 1800s: from the nuances of high-society protocol to the unspoken rules of personal agency.
